Health & Safety Officer – Louth

We are looking to hire a Health & Safety Officer for a food production company in Louth to join their growing and expanding team. As a Health and Safety Officer, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of safety and compliance within this facility. You will be responsible for implementing and enforcing health and safety protocols to safeguard the welfare of our client’s employees and uphold regulatory standards.

Salary
· Salary €50,000

Responsibilities:
· Review, develop and improve policies and procedures for Health & Safety in accordance with relevant legislation and best practices.
· Investigate all incidents/accidents and implement preventative and corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
· Carry out regular site Health and Safety inspections/audits of all areas ensuring continuous improvements are made.
· Ensure all Health and Safety policies and procedures are being implemented, taking measures to control and reduce risks.
· Ensure a safe working environment for all employees by ensuring compliance with current legislation.
· Provide advice, guidance and instruction in all Health & Safety matters.
· Ensure the emergency response procedures are maintained and updated as required.
· Lead, coach and develop their teams on Health and Safety policies, procedures and risk assessments.
· Lead initiatives to increase and develop best practice in Health & Safety.
· Reviewing all contractor documentation to ensure compliance.

Skills:
· Third Level qualification in Health and Safety or related discipline is essential.
· 2 years’ experience in Health and Safety within food manufacturing would be an advantage.
· Strong in-depth knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, regulations, and standards
· Proven ability to drive continuous improvement within the workplace.
· Excellent written, verbal and communication skills
· Strong IT skills
· Experienced in the handling of Health & Safety investigations

Main Duties:

  • Manage and roster a large, international workforce including supervisors, collectors, compost filling team, and harvesting staff.
  • Oversee and participate in farm operations such as filling and emptying tunnels, pesticide application, and general site cleaning.
  • Ensure productivity, crop yield, and efficiency targets are met according to company Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Forecast production on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Conduct daily farm walks, quality spot-checks, and report quality issues to the production team.
  • Maintain farm records in compliance with food safety standards.
  • Utilize computer systems including Fancom (climate control for growing) and iGrow (production app).

Other Tasks:

  • Enforce company rules regarding food safety, hygiene, health and safety, and disease control among staff.
  • Ensure smooth site logistics and adherence to strict timelines.
  • Liaise with all departments of the company as necessary (Operations, Technical, Packhouse, Finance, HR, NPD etc.).

Successful Candidates Will Be:

  • Local to Monaghan, Cavan farms.
  • Flexible regarding working hours and days.
  • Flexible regarding work duties, encompassing managerial, operational, and physical tasks.
  • Eager to learn and develop within the company.
  • From an agri-business/farm background or education.

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Production Biochemist you will work as part of a team carrying out daily duties according to the company’s cGMP and Quality Systems, in order to meet the agreed master production schedule. You will work to key metrics in Health & Safety, Quality/Compliance, Customer Service (internal and external) and Cost. You must be able to demonstrate a proactive approach towards identifying and resolving issues which may impact the schedule or quality of product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that daily manufacture and testing of all material/product, ensuring it is carried out in an accurate and efficient manner, in line with all relevant company policies and procedures.
  • Highlighting any issues which may lead to failure in Production, Quality or Compliance.
  • Revising documentation as required and recommending improvements where appropriate.
  • Working effectively to build productive relationships with other functional groups within the company.

Requirements 

  • A degree in life science (preferable) with extensive lab experience.
  • Preferably at least one (1) years’ industrial experience in the production/quality control of in vitro diagnostic or similar products.
  • Understanding of production operations, quality assurance/control and cGMP/GLP requirements.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical data, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to show a high level of care and attention to all aspects of the role and show a desire to achieve excellence through own initiative.
  • Proven team player capable of working within multiple areas.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency to meet production deadlines.
  • Excellent organisation, planning and judgement skills and ability to positively achieve results through others.
  • Flexible and willing to carry out overtime as necessary.
