We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Accountant to join our accounting practice. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and processing payroll functions for a portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance with current regulations, and delivering high-quality service. This role requires strong numerical accuracy, a thorough understanding of payroll legislation, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Process weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payrolls for multiple clients across various sectors.
Ensure accurate calculation of wages, deductions, bonuses, and commissions.
Handle payroll-related queries from clients and provide expert guidance.
Prepare and file statutory returns, including PAYE, NI, pension contributions, and year-end reporting (e.g., P60, P45, P11D).
Maintain up-to-date payroll records and client information.
Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare journals for accounting purposes.
Keep abreast of changes in payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
Support clients during audits and ensure all payroll practices meet legal and regulatory standards.
Assist in onboarding new clients and setting up payroll systems as needed.
Requirements:
Proven experience in a payroll position, preferably within a practice or bureau environment.
Knowledge of UK payroll legislation (or relevant country-specific laws if outside the UK).
Proficient in using payroll software (e.g., Sage Payroll, BrightPay, Xero Payroll, QuickBooks, etc.).
Strong Excel skills and attention to detail.
Excellent time management and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple client accounts.
Preferred Qualifications:
CIPP qualification or equivalent (or working towards it).
Experience with cloud-based accounting and payroll systems.
