About the Role:
As a Yard Operative, you will support day-to-day yard activities, ensuring materials, vehicles, and equipment are handled safely and efficiently.

You will play a key role in maintaining a clean, orderly, and compliant yard, working closely with colleagues and drivers to keep operations on schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

• Load and unload vehicles using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment.
• Operate forklifts and other yard machinery to move, stack, and store materials safely.
• Assist with organising and maintaining stock and materials in designated yard areas.
• Carry out basic checks and routine maintenance on yard tools and equipment.
• Ensure all work areas are kept clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
• Follow all site health and safety procedures, reporting any issues or incidents promptly.
• Communicate clearly with drivers, colleagues, and supervisors to coordinate yard movements.
• Support general yard duties as required to meet operational needs.

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience in a yard, warehouse, construction, or similar manual handling environment.
• Valid forklift licence and practical experience operating forklifts.
• Strong awareness of health and safety practices in an industrial or yard setting.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, and working outdoors in varying weather.
• Confident using basic yard machinery and hand tools.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and site procedures.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in vehicle loading and securing loads for transport.
• Familiarity with basic stock organisation or yard inventory processes.
• Previous experience in a temporary or agency-based yard operative role.
• Knowledge of safe working practices around heavy vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications:

• Manual Handling training/certification.
• Valid forklift certification.
• Secondary level education (Leaving Certificate or equivalent) preferred.
• Any additional health and safety training (e.g. Safe Pass or equivalent) an advantage.
