Finance Assistant – Entry Level

This entry-level role offers broad exposure to core finance processes, structured responsibilities, and the chance to work closely with experienced professionals. Training will be provided to help you quickly become confident and effective in the role.

About the Role:
You will support the Finance team with day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial information across several entities. The role spans accounts payable and receivable support, balance sheet reconciliations, and assistance with financial reporting. Your work will contribute directly to the accuracy of financial records and the smooth running of core finance operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and posting of allocation journals to the general ledger.
  • Support the preparation and posting of fixed assets, ensuring the fixed assets in-tray is maintained at a one-month processing level.
  • Assist in preparing balance sheet reconciliations for review.
  • Provide clerical and technical support to the Finance team, including data entry and document processing.
  • Help ensure capital expenditure policies are followed and correctly applied by all companies.
  • Support the integrity of the expense claim system and adherence to a robust expense policy.
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity of the Purchase to Pay system.
  • Liaise with other departments to obtain relevant financial information and clarify queries.
  • Assist in the preparation of tailored ad hoc financial and management reports.
  • Support the team and budget holders with finance-related queries and information requests.
  • Contribute to identifying process improvements and support a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Attend and contribute to management and department meetings where required.
  • Assist with other ad hoc finance tasks as required.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong attention to detail with a high standard of data entry accuracy.
  • Good time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Solid numeracy and analytical skills to support reconciliations and report preparation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas and data manipulation.
  • Ability to support accounts payable and receivable processing activities.
  • Confidence in handling bank reconciliation tasks under supervision.
  • Basic understanding of bookkeeping principles and double-entry concepts.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to learn financial systems and procedures and adapt to new processes.

Qualifications:

  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent secondary education as a minimum.
  • Further education in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (certificate, diploma, or degree) is desirable.
  • Working towards or interested in pursuing a professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, ACA, CIMA, ATI) is an advantage.
