Job Description

Design Manager

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Design Manager to join our client’s construction team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of high-quality construction projects by managing the design process from pre-construction through to project completion, ensuring designs are coordinated, compliant, and delivered on programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the design process throughout all stages of the project lifecycle, from pre-construction to completion.
  • Lead design team meetings and coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and client representatives to ensure timely delivery of design information.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements, statutory regulations, and industry standards.
  • Monitor design programmes and ensure information is issued in line with the construction programme to avoid delays.
  • Identify design risks, technical issues, and clashes, working collaboratively with project teams to develop practical and cost-effective solutions.
  • Support value engineering initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve buildability, programme efficiency, sustainability, and cost performance.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Commercial Teams, and Design Consultants to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Manage the design change process, ensuring all revisions are documented, communicated, and implemented effectively.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Design Manager, Design Coordinator, or similar role within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, design management processes, and project delivery.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams on large-scale construction projects.
  • Knowledge of Building Regulations, planning processes, and current construction standards.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using document management systems and design coordination platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360, or similar.
