AI Model Risk & Validation Manager (Quantitative Risk)

Location: Dublin (Hybrid – Ireland based)
Type: Permanent

Introduction
A leading financial services organisation is seeking to appoint an experienced AI Model Risk & Validation Manager to support the governance, oversight, and independent validation of a broad range of analytical and data-driven models.
This role sits within a specialist risk function responsible for ensuring that models, algorithms, and AI-enabled systems are robust, well-controlled, and suitable for their intended use within a regulated environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping validation standards across both traditional statistical models and emerging AI/ML-based systems.

Role Overview
The AI Model Risk & Validation Manager is responsible for the independent assessment and validation of quantitative models and AI-based systems, including machine learning models, advanced analytics solutions, and externally developed tools.
The role defines the validation approach, depth, and scope in line with internal governance standards and broader regulatory expectations, ensuring appropriate challenge is applied to model assumptions, design, and performance.
This position combines hands-on technical validation work with oversight responsibilities, including guiding analysts, reviewing outputs, and contributing to formal governance decisions on model suitability for use.

Responsibilities / Day-to-Day Activities

  • Lead and support the independent validation of quantitative models and AI/ML-based systems
  • Review and challenge model assumptions, methodologies, and outputs to assess suitability for use
  • Provide first-line review and sign-off of validation work completed by analysts
  • Oversee and guide junior analysts, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery of outputs
  • Present validation findings and risk assessments to internal governance forums and model owners
  • Contribute to the planning and scheduling of validation activities across the model portfolio
  • Engage with stakeholders and external providers to challenge approaches and strengthen governance outcomes
  • Ensure all validation work is delivered in line with internal standards, policies, and timelines
  • Support improvements to validation frameworks, particularly in relation to advanced analytics and AI-driven solutions
  • Remain hands-on for complex or high-risk models requiring deeper technical assessment

Key Requirements

  • Strong quantitative background (typically degree-qualified in a numerate discipline such as mathematics, statistics, engineering, physics, econometrics, actuarial science, or similar)
  • Experience in model validation, model development, model risk management, or independent quantitative review function
  • Strong understanding of statistical modelling techniques and data-driven analytical approaches
  • Experience working with advanced modelling approaches including machine learning methods
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desired Skills

  • Experience leading or mentoring teams of quantitative or analytical professionals
  • Exposure to advanced AI techniques or emerging machine learning methodologies
  • Experience operating within structured governance, risk, or controlled decision-making environments
  • Familiarity with model validation frameworks and documentation standards
  • Experience working with large-scale data environments or complex analytical systems
  • Background in credit, risk, or financial modelling would be advantageous (but not essential)
