Our client, based in Kildare, is seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their finance team. Reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller, this is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and proactive individual to take ownership of key finance functions, particularly weekly payroll, while also supporting broader accounting and reporting processes.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Group’s finance function. This includes managing weekly payroll across two business divisions, handling accounts payable tasks and assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts and compliance reporting.
Salary: €38,000 – €42,000 (DOE)

Key Responsibilities: Payroll Management
Prepare and process weekly payroll across the 2 business divisions (approx. 115+ employees in total) using a manual timesheet system.
Ensure all statutory deductions, pensions and other payments are processed accurately.
Reconcile payroll reports with the nominal ledger and maintain up-to-date employee records.
Process and pay employee expenses.
Support the migration from manual to automated payroll/timekeeping systems.
Accounts Payable & Banking
Manage supplier setup, invoice processing and weekly/monthly payment runs.
Reconcile and post group credit card transactions.
Perform daily bank postings and weekly bank reconciliations.
Prepare tax returns (VAT, PAYE, VIES, Intrastat) and ensure compliance with CSO reporting.
Support internal controls and financial reporting processes.
General Finance Support
Work closely with the Group Financial Controller on ad hoc projects.
Liaise with suppliers and internal teams as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
3+ years’ experience in a finance role within a commercial environment.
Strong, hands-on payroll experience essential.
Third level qualification, accounting technician, IPASS qualification (or equivalent) desired.
Proficient in MS Excel, Sage 50 experience highly desirable.
Excellent attention to detail, communication and organisational skills.
Proactive, solutions-focused team player with the ability to work independently.
