Process Manufacturing Engineer – Automotive Glass Innovation

Osborne Recruitment is proud to exclusively partner with a leading global automotive manufacturer to recruit a Process Manufacturing Engineer for its advanced automotive glass division in Holland, Michigan.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly innovative manufacturing team focused on the next generation of automotive mirror glass technologies. We are seeking a technically driven engineer with expertise in glass processing, coatings, bonding, and advanced manufacturing, ideally gained within automotive, consumer electronics, display technology, architectural glass, or related high-precision industries.

About the Role
As a key member of the advanced manufacturing team, you will lead the development and optimization of high-performance mirror glass production processes. This role combines hands-on engineering expertise with strategic process improvement, helping to drive innovation, efficiency, and manufacturing excellence across the division.
You will work cross-functionally with R&D, product design, and operations teams to deliver scalable, high-quality manufacturing solutions while continuously improving performance, yield, and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Automotive Mirror Glass Processing

  • Lead process development for precision cutting, tempering, coating, and laminating of mirror-grade glass.
  • Optimize reflective and protective coating applications, including aluminum, chrome, anti-fog, and anti-glare technologies.
  • Develop and validate advanced bonding and lamination methods for multi-layer mirror assemblies.
Manufacturing & Process Engineering
  • Design, implement, and optimize robust, scalable manufacturing processes with high repeatability and yield.
  • Utilize DOE, SPC, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies to solve complex production challenges.
  • Evaluate and qualify new equipment, tooling, and automation technologies to support process advancement.
Design for Manufacturability & Cost Optimization
  • Collaborate closely with product and design engineering teams to enhance manufacturability and production efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, improve material utilization, and streamline assembly processes.
  • Balance optical performance, durability, quality, and cost-effectiveness in all process solutions.
Innovation & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with R&D and operations teams to industrialize emerging mirror and glass technologies.
  • Challenge existing manufacturing assumptions and introduce innovative solutions that improve performance and efficiency.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for glass processing across cross-functional initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in glass processing, coatings, mirror manufacturing, or display technologies.
  • Automotive industry experience is highly desirable; candidates from consumer electronics, architectural glass, appliance, or touch display industries are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working within high-volume manufacturing environments with demanding quality standards.
  • Technical Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of coating technologies including PVD, CVD, sputtering, and chemical deposition.
  • Expertise in bonding, lamination, adhesion, and glass failure analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SPC, and FMEA methodologies.
  • Proven ability to drive process optimization, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.
