Head of Procurement

Our client, a leading supplier to the healthcare industry are looking to appoint a Head of Procurement to lead their purchasing strategy and activities, ensuring optimal supplier performance and pricing. Responsibilities include managing logistics, planning, and procurement to maintain consistency, cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and sufficiency in their processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Enhance profit margins across all business sectors, equipment servicing, and consumables.
  • Formulate and execute a strategy to align the procurement function with business objectives, focusing on value addition, mitigating supply chain risks, and achieving cost savings.
  • Cultivate and manage strategic supplier relationships, oversee contract development and management to drive continuous improvement in goods and services delivery.
  • Assess contracts and provide recommendations on commercial viability.
  • Accountable for annual purchasing budgets, forecasts, capital expenditure proposals, and ensuring compliance with customer and legal standards, managing projects from inception to completion.
  • Manage and report on supplier contracts and terms.
  • Strategic forecasting of demand for goods and services.
  • Develop policies and procedures for efficient, honest, and productive purchasing, ensuring optimal supply chain production and operation.
  • Establish criteria for approving purchase orders, set purchasing policies, manage inventory, budget for materials, and consistently assess stock requirements, skills, and account balances.
  • Being at the forefront of  market trends, current prices, and fair rates for goods.
  • Evaluate bids and quotes from suppliers, negotiate service agreements and contracts.
  • Identify sources for purchasing supplies, explore options to procure best value products and services.
  • Assess environmental strategies impacting future operations and implement where feasible.
  • Explore opportunities for environmentally friendly practices.
  • Lead and supervise the Procurement team to provide appropriate support to meet corporate and business development objectives, ensuring high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Foster effective communication among teams under your leadership to facilitate information exchange and drive change and improvements.
  • Collaborate with the senior management team to contribute to overall business objectives.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • Hold a degree qualification, preferably at Masters level, in a relevant field.
  • Possess experience in the healthcare sector, specifically in capital equipment and consumable sales.
  • Demonstrate a successful history of leading procurement functions, with expertise in strategic purchasing leadership, and a track record of implementing effective purchasing strategies, policies, processes, and systems.
  • Demonstrate experience in operating and exerting influence at a strategic level.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities to inspire and motivate teams effectively.
  • Outstanding skills in relationship management, capable of engaging, negotiating, contract management and overseeing key stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Confident and adept negotiator with proficiency at all levels.
  • Results-driven, with a knack for planning and meeting project deadlines. Proficient in analysis and problem-solving.
  • Resilient, optimistic, and adaptable to change.
  • Understanding of managing conflicting interests and meeting statutory requirements.
  • Capable of adding value, reducing costs, and driving business improvements.
  • Excellent organisational prowess.
