Junior Electrical Design Engineer

Location: On-site, Ireland

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking a Junior Electrical Design Engineer to join our engineering team within an established manufacturing environment.

This role is suited to a graduate or early-career engineer looking to develop practical experience in electrical design, control systems, PLCs and industrial machinery.

Working alongside experienced engineers, you will support the design, development, testing and commissioning of electrical systems from initial design through to finished machine.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and modify electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
• Produce electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical or a similar CAD package.
• Assist with the design of control panels and machine wiring.
• Select and specify electrical components including motors, contactors, sensors, inverters and safety components.
• Assist with PLC programming, testing and fault-finding.
• Support machine commissioning and electrical testing.
• Prepare and maintain electrical BOMs and technical documentation.
• Support the production and panel-building teams with electrical queries.
• Assist with identifying and implementing improvements to electrical designs.
• Support troubleshooting of electrical and control system issues.

Essential Requirements

• Level 7/8 qualification in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.
• Basic understanding of electrical systems, motors and control circuits.
• An interest in PLCs, automation and industrial machinery.
• Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to read and understand electrical drawings.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A willingness to learn and develop within a hands-on engineering environment.

Desirable

• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical or similar.
• Basic PLC programming experience.
• Knowledge of single- and three-phase electrical systems.
• Understanding of machine safety circuits.
• Previous manufacturing, machinery or industrial experience.
