Production Controller – Structural Steel Fabrication

  • Location: New Ross, Co. Wexford
  • Salary: €50,000 per annum
  • Employment Type: Full-time

The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Production Controller to join our structural steel fabrication plant based fully in New Ross.

The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating and monitoring day-to-day production activities, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards and programme.

This is a hands-on production role within a busy structural steel fabrication environment, working closely with the Workshop and Production Managers to maintain productivity, quality and workflow throughout the plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control daily production activities across the fabrication and painting processes.
  • Work closely with the Workshop and Production Managers to ensure production targets and project programmes are achieved.
  • Monitor workflow and productivity across structural steel fabrication, preparation and coating operations.
  • Ensure fabricated steel sections are processed in accordance with drawings, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Record and maintain accurate production and quality documentation.
  • Carry out and record WFT (Wet Film Thickness) and DFT (Dry Film Thickness) measurements on painted steelwork where required.
  • Monitor the application and quality of protective coating systems, including zinc phosphate primers, epoxy primers, intumescent coatings and finish coats.
  • Identify production or quality issues at an early stage and work with the relevant managers to resolve them.
  • Liaise with fabrication, preparation and painting personnel to ensure work progresses efficiently through each stage of production.
  • Assist with ensuring materials, components and completed steelwork are available when required to maintain production flow.
  • Monitor finished work to ensure it meets the required quality and specification standards.
  • Maintain accurate records using computer-based production and quality systems.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving productivity, quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company procedures, health and safety requirements and relevant quality standards.

Experience & Skills Required

Essential:

  • Proven experience working within a structural steel fabrication environment.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience working with structural steel sections.
  • Experience in production control, coordination or supervision within a fabrication environment.
  • Good understanding of fabrication processes and production workflows.
  • Strong computer literacy and the ability to use Microsoft Office and production/quality recording systems.
  • Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and production information.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a clear focus on quality and productivity.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing production priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a busy production team.

Desirable:

  • Experience recording and monitoring WFT/DFT on painted steel.
  • Practical knowledge of protective coating systems, including:
  • Zinc phosphate primers
  • Epoxy primers
  • Intumescent coatings
  • Finish/top coats
  • Experience in quality control within structural steel fabrication and painting.
  • Knowledge of relevant steel fabrication and coating quality standards would be an advantage.

Working Relationships

The Production Controller will report directly to the Workshop and Production Managers on a daily basis and will work closely with fabrication, preparation, painting and other production personnel.

The successful candidate will be expected to take a proactive approach to production control, ensuring that quality and productivity requirements are consistently achieved while maintaining a safe and organised working environment.
