Overview:
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a qualified Financial Accountant to join a well-established finance team within a leading public sector organisation. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in the preparation of statutory and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, strengthening financial controls, and supporting the delivery of accurate and timely financial information to senior stakeholders.
This position offers excellent exposure to financial reporting, audit management, regulatory compliance and finance process improvement. Candidates with experience in the banking or financial services sector will be particularly well suited to this role due to the complexity of the reporting environment, although applications from other relevant sectors are also welcomed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and applicable reporting standards.
- Support the preparation of statutory accounts and other financial reporting requirements within agreed deadlines.
- Assist with the production of management accounts and Board reporting packs.
- Liaise with external auditors and coordinate the annual audit process.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and ensure the integrity of the general ledger.
- Maintain robust financial controls and ensure compliance with internal policies and governance requirements.
- Support the preparation of regulatory and statutory returns as required.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting processes and contribute to finance transformation initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with finance colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation.
- Provide financial analysis and support on a range of finance projects and ad hoc reporting requirements.
Requirements:
- Third level qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
- Minimum 3–5 years’ post-qualified experience in a financial reporting role.
- Strong experience preparing statutory financial statements and management reporting.
- Excellent knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
- Banking or Financial Services experience is highly desirable.
- Experience within the public sector or a regulated environment would be advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using financial reporting or ERP systems.
- A proactive, organised approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
