IT Security Manager – Contract Opportunity
Location – Dublin / Hybrid
3-Month Contract
Introduction:
A leading public sector organisation is seeking an experienced IT Security Manager to provide hands-on leadership, governance, and operational oversight across its cybersecurity function.
This role will take ownership of cyber risk management, third-party security assurance, incident response coordination, and security operations oversight while ensuring the organisation maintains a practical, effective, and auditable security posture.
The successful candidate will combine strategic security leadership with a hands-on approach to day-to-day cybersecurity management and stakeholder engagement.
This organisation operates within a collaborative and highly regulated environment where cybersecurity, governance, and operational resilience are key priorities. The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders, managed service providers, and governance teams to strengthen and mature the organisation’s overall security capability.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Cybersecurity Leadership & Governance
Act as the organisation’s lead cybersecurity professional and key point of contact for cyber risk management
Develop and maintain a practical cybersecurity governance framework aligned to organisational needs
Create and manage a prioritised cybersecurity roadmap
Provide executive-level reporting on risks, incidents, and overall security posture
Define clear operational responsibilities across internal teams and third-party providers
Risk Management & Compliance
Maintain and manage the cybersecurity and IT risk register
Conduct security and risk assessments across systems and services
Support audit, compliance, and regulatory readiness activities including GDPR and NIS2
Develop and enhance security policies, standards, and procedures
Third-Party Risk Management
Lead the organisation’s vendor and third-party security risk management process
Conduct supplier risk assessments and ongoing monitoring activities
Manage third-party risk platforms such as UpGuard or similar tools
Track remediation activities and provide reporting on vendor risk exposure
Security Operations & Incident Response
Act as the primary liaison with MSSP and SOC providers
Review incidents, vulnerabilities, investigations, and remediation progress
Develop and maintain incident response plans and coordinate response activities during security incidents
Facilitate tabletop exercises and post-incident review sessions
Security & Project Support
Provide security guidance across projects, systems, and architecture decisions
Review vulnerabilities and ensure remediation activities are progressing effectively
Identify security gaps and recommend practical improvements
Key Requirements:
Essential Experience
5+ years’ experience in cybersecurity or IT security roles
Previous experience operating as an IT Security Manager, Security Lead, or similar role
Strong understanding of:
Security governance and risk management
Security operations and incident response
Third-party/vendor risk management
Experience working with MSSPs, SOC teams, and multi-supplier environments
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to present clear and concise executive-level reporting
Desirable Experience
Experience within public sector, higher education, or regulated environments
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Azure security environments
Experience using third-party risk management platforms such as UpGuard
Relevant certifications including CISSP, CISM, or ISO 27001 qualifications
