Specification Technologist

Here at Osborne, we are hiring for a Specification Technologist on behalf of one our clients based in Kildare in the food manufacturing industry. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with previous experience writing food specifications to join a growing technical and innovation-focused team.
Reporting to the NPI Compliance Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring all customer and internal specifications are completed accurately, on-time and in line with customer codes of practice and food legislation. You will also be an active member of the innovation team, supporting new product introductions into the business.

Location: Naas, Co. Kildare (Fully on-site)
Salary: €35,000

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all customer specifications are completed accurately and within required timelines
  • Act as a key technical contact for customers regarding specification-related queries
  • Liaise with Procurement and Suppliers to ensure all new raw materials comply with customer codes of practice and site requirements
  • Work closely with internal departments to complete gold-standard customer specifications across multiple technologies
  • Support the NPD and innovation process to ensure all new products are safe, legal and customer-compliant
  • Generate Product Information Sheets for new product developments
  • Calculate nutritional information for new products and amendments, including validation of nutritional claims
  • Maintain and update internal specification trackers to ensure control and compliance
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of raw material and finished product specifications on internal systems
  • Review and approve labels against product specifications and relevant food legislation
  • Generate pack copy and manage customer artwork, ensuring full compliance with labelling legislation
  • Update and approve internal systems (e.g. Insight)
  • Carry out sensory analysis in-house and support the training of new team members
  • Attend meetings as required and contribute positively to technical and NPI discussions
  • Proactively engage in projects aimed at improving and streamlining technical procedures and processes

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Third-level qualification in Food Science, Culinary Science, Science, or a related discipline
  • Previous experience writing and managing food specifications is essential
  • Strong understanding of HACCP principles and food legislative requirements
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Strong organisational, people and project management skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive and ability to work on your own initiative
  • Positive, high-energy team player with a strong track record of meeting deadlines
