R&D Project Engineer

Job Type: Fulltime Permanent
Location: Cavan
Salary: DOE

Job Purpose:

  • To work as part of the R&D team to test, develop, and improve new and existing products while ensuring robust design and performance criteria are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage new product development projects and product improvements in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Execute design, prototyping, and testing activities while maintaining accurate and detailed documentation.
  • Record and interpret development data, including preparing technical reports and drawings.
  • Analyse and review test data to optimise product performance and design outcomes.
  • Conduct research to stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and departments as required.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, management, and other business functions such as technical, engineering, and operations.
  • Report and present updates on project status, milestones, and timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant standards, including ISO 37301 and ISO 9001.
  • Follow applicable EN standards and country-specific codes for product development.
  • Carry out any additional duties reasonably assigned by the line manager that align with the role.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • ME or BEng (Level 8) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years’ experience in R&D or a related engineering environment.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of FEA (ideally ANSYS).
  • Hands-on approach to mechanical testing, including building and operating test rigs.
  • Experience with EN certification and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects through to completion.
  • Innovative, creative, positive, and open-minded approach to design.
  • Willingness to travel when required.
  • Full clean driving licence (EU or equivalent).
  • Strong focus on safe working practices and good housekeeping.
