Financial Accountant
We are hiring a qualified and experienced Financial Accountant to take ownership of nominal ledger integrity, banking oversight, for our client a leading player in the Irish and UK seafood and distribution sector. This is a critical finance role with hands-on responsibility for financial accuracy, compliance, cash flow forecasting, and internal control across our expanding group structure. You will be working directly with senior finance leadership in a company that values structure, insight, and continuous improvement.
Duties:
General Ledger & Financial Reporting
Maintain and reconcile general ledgers across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Prepare monthly management accounts and consolidated group financial reports.
Post and review journals, including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.
Banking & Treasury
Oversee daily bank reconciliations across EUR, GBP, and USD accounts.
Manage group bank accounts, ensuring efficient cash allocation and liquidity management.
Support treasury forecasting and monitor invoice discounting activities.
ERP, Controls & Cost Management
Oversee ERP processes related to general ledger and reporting.
Ensure adherence to financial controls across all entities.
Monitor overheads, analyse cost trends, and recommend efficiency improvements.
VAT, Compliance & Audit
Prepare and submit VAT returns and statutory filings for Ireland and the UK.
Support external audits and compile reconciliations and audit schedules.
Maintain accurate documentation for all general ledger accounts.
Business Insurance
Support the annual review and renewal of business insurance policies.
Source and evaluate quotations to ensure optimal coverage.
Monitor policy performance and maintain appropriate insurance levels.
Credit Insurance
Assist with annual credit insurance review and renewal processes.
Manage credit applications and respond to insurer communications.
Ensure compliance with insurer requirements and coverage terms.
Commercial & Insight
Support monthly reporting on frozen stock and contribution margins.
Analyse financial variances and highlight potential risk areas.
Track and report on distribution and storage costs weekly.
Skills:
Fully Qualified (ACA, ACCA, CPA or similar)
3+ years’ experience in a similar group-level accounting or reporting role
Experience working in a trade, product-based, food, or transport business is advantageous
Strong analytical mindset and commercial awareness
ERP system experiences essential; advanced Excel a plus
Reliable, detail-oriented, and highly organized
