Specification Technologist / Internal Auditor

Are you passionate about food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance? We’re looking for a Specification Technologist/Internal Auditor on behalf of one of our clients, based in Naas, Co. Kildare. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic group of professionals in a fast-paced, innovative food manufacturing environment.
As a Specification Technologist/Internal Auditor, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of product specifications and maintaining compliance with both internal and external food safety and quality standards. You’ll contribute to product development, support internal and supplier audits, and ensure that all documentation and labelling meet regulatory and customer expectations.
You will be part of a close-knit team of four and report to a Senior Specification Technologist.

Location: Naas, Co. Kildare
Salary: €35,000 – €38,000 (depending on experience)
Working Days: Monday to Friday
Hours: 08:30 – 17:00
Hybrid Working: Hybrid possibility after probation

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, update, and maintain product specifications in line with company and legal requirements
  • Verify that raw materials and finished products meet defined quality and safety standards
  • Conduct internal audits and support external audits to maintain compliance with BRC, retailer, and legislative requirements
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure accurate documentation and regulatory compliance across departments
  • Review and approve artwork and packaging to ensure alignment with labelling regulations
  • Support the assessment and auditing of suppliers to ensure product quality and safety
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation and food industry standards across the UK and Ireland
  • Assist in the launch of new or revised products by ensuring documentation and specifications are audit-ready
  • Contribute to risk assessments and food safety system improvements
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects relating to product quality and safety

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline is required
  • Minimum 1 year’s experience in the food industry, ideally in a quality, specification, or auditing role
  • Solid understanding of food labelling legislation and regulatory requirements (Ireland/UK)
  • Hands-on experience with food retailer specification systems (e.g., Tesco, M&S, Aldi, Lidl)
  • Familiarity with food safety systems (BRC, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000) and auditing standards
  • Experience conducting internal audits (desirable)
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP and food safety management principles
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with food testing methods and risk management tools such as FMEA is a plus
