Professor / Full Professor in Offshore Power Grids

Osborne are delighted to be partnering with The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at University College Dublin, in collaboration with the UCD Energy Institute, Dublin, Ireland, in the recruitment for a Professor in Offshore Power Grids.

This is a unique opportunity to lead cutting-edge research in renewable energy integration, offshore power networks, and energy conversion technologies at Ireland’s leading research-intensive university.

As Professor in Offshore Power Grids, you will play a pivotal role within the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the UCD Energy Institute, advancing UCD’s world-class research in power system control, offshore grids, and AC/DC technologies. Your expertise will drive innovation in offshore renewable resources, supporting Ireland’s transition to a sustainable energy future.

The Role
We are looking for an internationally recognised expert in electrical power systems to:

  • Lead pioneering research in offshore grid systems and their integration with onshore networks.
  • Develop and secure national and international research funding to support large-scale projects.
  • Collaborate with academic, industrial, and government stakeholders to shape energy policy and industry standards.
  • Inspire the next generation of engineers through research-led teaching and postgraduate supervision.
  • Take on a leadership role within the UCD Energy Institute, driving impactful research programmes like NexSys.

Selection Criteria:

  • A doctorate in Electrical Power Engineering or a related field.
  • A proven track record of world-leading research in offshore power networks, energy storage, or power electronics.
  • Extensive experience in winning and managing research grants, particularly in collaborative projects.
  • A commitment to high-quality university teaching, mentorship, and student development.
  • Strong industry connections and the ability to build strategic partnerships with energy stakeholders.
