Risk Management Officer – Financial Services

Are you an experienced risk professional looking for an opportunity to make a real impact? A well-established Dublin based Credit Union is seeking a Risk Management Officer (RMO) to lead and enhance its risk management framework. This is a senior role within a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation, offering the chance to work autonomously and closely with leadership in shaping risk strategy and governance.

The Role:
As Risk Management Officer, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and managing risks across the organisation. This includes strategic, operational, credit, IT, data protection, and reputational risks. You will play a key role in embedding a strong risk culture, ensuring robust risk controls, and supporting senior management and the Board in decision-making.
You will report directly to the CEO, with a dotted line to the Board of Directors and Risk Committee, ensuring full transparency and accountability in all risk-related matters.

Key Responsibilities of the Risk Management Officer:

  • Develop and implement a best-in-class risk management framework, Policies, processes, tools and GDPR Plan ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with the CEO, the CFO, the Compliance Manager and senior management team in identifying, defining and remediating various risk-related issues in attaining established compliance goals as directed by the Board of Directors  and Central bank of Ireland (CBI)
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate internal and external risks that could impact employees, members, data, reputation, or assets.
  • Provide regular risk reports to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Risk Committee.
  • Embed a strong risk culture across the organisation, including staff training on risk awareness.
  • Oversee risk exposure and incidents, ensuring a comprehensive view of overall risk.
  • Act as the primary contact for governance, business, Data Protection matters, GDPR requirements and project risk issues.
  • Monitor external factors and industry developments to proactively identify and address emerging risks.
  • Lead the development of policies and procedures for operational, IT, credit, market, and liquidity risk.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR and data protection regulations, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate effectively  with the Compliance Officer and deputise when necessary.
  • Provide support to the Board and CU Committee including training and mentoring and helpful guidance to support the Directors with their governance role.
  • As a member of the management team of the credit union you will be accountable to the CEO and the Board, with day-to-day reporting to the CEO and performance management by the CEO.
  • This position is a controlled function (CUCF-1) within the Central Bank of Ireland’s fitness and probity regime.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong experience in risk management, ideally within financial services.
  • A solid understanding of governance, compliance, and regulatory requirements (CBI, GDPR, etc.).
  • Proven ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage with senior leadership and the Board.
  • A structured and detail-focused approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience in project management and risk training.
  • A degree-level qualification in a relevant field (risk, finance, business, law, or similar).
  • Knowledge and experience of GDPR and the Data Protection regulations in financial services would be an advantage.

This is a full-time, permanent role however a part time (three-day week) will also be considered
The credit union will offer salary and benefits commensurate with the role and the marketplace. Salary is negotiable DOE.
The role will be based in a Dublin City office with hybrid working arrangements on offer.
