Accountant – Dublin 7 – Fixed Term Contract

Osborne are currently recruiting for our client within the public sector for a Finance Business Partner / Accountant with financial planning experience. This position is a new role within the company and are currently within growth stage. This is a FTC for 6-9 months with hybrid working. The role of Accountant /Finance Business Partners will be to work collaboratively with management teams to implement strategic and key initiatives and to support decision-making.
The appointee will liaise with the relevant unit management and coordinate access to expertise in the relevant specialist finance team.

Principal Accountabilities
The tasks and duties associated with the posts include: The principal responsibilities of the role will include, but not be limited to;

  • To support the organisation (and the relevant subunits) in the financial planning.
  • To support the academic community in growing revenue, while evaluating and advising on the financial risks and rewards.
  • Manage the relationship between Finance and Faculty (and Schools) and designated support units
  • Provide support and advice to Schools/Faculty & support units in the preparation and management of budgets to meet unit objectives.
  • Provide timely and accurate management reports to Schools/Faculty and designated support units to enable both forward planning and evaluation of current operational activities throughout the year. This includes providing variance analysis reports for payand non-pay budgets.
  • Work in partnership with Faculty and School and relevant support units towards delivery of subunit objectives and University strategic objectives.
  • Contribute to strategic, commercial and financial decision-making with the Faculty and Schools and relevant support units.
  • Work with Faculty and support units to implement University financial policy and ensure that current and proposed activities are consistent with University’s strategy.
  • Provide regular reporting on the financial performance of the Faculty and Schools and designated support unit(s) to relevant Senior Management.
  • Collaborate with academic units on planned academic programmes, and delivery of financially viable revenue growth opportunities.
  • Ensure delivery of access (for School/Faculty and support users) to financial systems and information, and delivery of associated support and training to users.
  • Review staff requisition requests and provide evidence-based financial comments for the approval committee’s consideration.
  • Provide training and advice to Schools/Faculty and designated support units to support users in the decision-making process.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the University’s annual budget through collaboration with budget holders and application of best practice.
  • Contribute fully as a member of the Finance Team in implementing Finance strategic and operational plans, as they align with the University’s Strategic Intent to 2030.
  • To work collaboratively with the Management Team, HR & IT business partners, other colleagues in Finance, other services and academic units.
  • To keep abreast of developments in the provision of financial services.
  • To deputise as appropriate in the absence of the Senior Financial Planning Manager.
  • To perform other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Financial Planning Manager.
  • Achieve tasks in deadlines set.

Person Specification
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities as outlined below:

Qualifications

  • Part Qualified or Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Candidates should hold an honours primary degree in Finance or Business or a related area)
  • Relevant NFQ Level 9 qualification from a recognised degree-awarding authority

Knowledge

  • Proven track record in compiling and revising organisational budgets/financial plans, both strategic and operational, in a complex environment with relevant stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience of advising and supporting operational units to enhance their expertise in the area of financial planning, monitoring and control. (Desirable)

Experience

  • Relevant experience in financial planning. (Desirable)
  • Minimum of two years relevant post-qualification experience. (Desirable)
  • Experience of managing relationships with stakeholders. (Desirable)
  • Experience of implementing change. (Desirable)
