Procurement Manager

Our client, a major company in the Life Science sector have a requirement for a procurement manager to join their facility in Waterford. This is an on-site position in Waterford, but the company is open to a level of hybrid operation.
If you have managerial experience in in-direct materials procurement and capital, can work with stakeholders and contractors, maintain contracts with legal and can negotiate with suppliers and maintain smooth provision of goods and services, then we need to hear from you.
You will be responsible and accountable for the procurement for the company’s facility in Waterford, including supplier selection, ordering, follow-up and process control, while ensuring that internal customer requirements for materials/goods and services are achieved in a timely manner at the lowest total cost and in direct conformance with the policies and procedures of the company.
Developing, implementing, and sustaining procurement plans and strategies for Waterford that are directly supportive of global procurement business objectives and professional/ethical business practices. Drive plant consistency of the globally harmonized procurement responsibilities and processes, while establishing and implementing best practices.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Accountability for seamless, smooth provision of the goods and services supply of the company facility in Waterford.
  • Fully understand and have a deep knowledge of the regional landscape of the supply market for goods and services in terms of supplier base, technologies, competitive environment, market trends and cost drivers.
  • Find and implement strategic sourcing solutions previously unknown to the company, or previously known but not actioned.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers. Fully understand and negotiate the structure and terms of common contracts and business models in the Irish region.
  • Identify and assess risks and benefits of sourcing decisions and clearly present proposals to mitigate risks collaboratively, ensuring sustained product supply-quality-compliance.
  • Act as first escalation point if problems with suppliers arise. Coordinate resolution of supplier performance issues.
  • Contribute to the annual budget process by providing reliable cost estimates and realistic forecasts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instructions, and all safety rules.
  • Ensure adequate protection of confidential information and documentation. Restrict access to confidential information.
  • Ensure that key operational and essential documentation files are properly stored.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a Business or Technical curriculum, or non-academic Bachelor of Business Administration.
  • Experience: 6-10 years of progressive business experience in sourcing/supplier/category management or related functions.

Competencies:

  • Supplier and contract management experience.
  • Strong influencing, change management, and negotiation skills.
  • Present and advocate sourcing cases to a variety of audiences with self-confidence.
  • Ability to respectfully communicate to and challenge plant management team.
  • Openness for new initiatives, fast learner, proactive.
  • Ability to lead teams and build effective working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Results orientation.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Self-starter and independent worker.
  • Proficiency in English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Master’s degree in a Business or Technical curriculum, or equivalent.
  • Experience: 11+ years of progressive business experience in sourcing/supplier/category management or related functions, preferably with chemical industry or pharmaceutical industry background.

Competencies:

  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, negotiation and project management skills.
  • Supply Chain or Procurement Certifications.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional projects.
  • Experience in SAP (MM) and MS Office.
  • Proficiency in one additional language.

Direct/Indirect Reports: 

  • Purchasing Specialist x 1.

PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Travel time is expected to be less than 10%.
