Renal Nurse – Sandyford

Location: Sandyford

Salary: €37,161 – €51,344 per annum

Department: Renal

Reporting to: CNM

Overall Purpose of Job

  • To assist the Clinical Nurse Manager in the daily operations. This will include medical, nursing, administrative and technical personnel.
  • The staff nurse will provide holistic, patient centred care and specialty nursing care to Renal patients in an environment where quality, respect and compassion are at the centre of everything we do.
  • The Staff Nurse will plan, implement and evaluate care to the highest professional and ethical standards within the model of nursing care practiced within the organisation.
  • Nurses make sure to start, monitor and perform treatment and continuously keep a close eye on the equipment readings for their patient
  • The staff nurse will work closely with other medical staff to ensure that the patient is safe while undergoing haemodialysis treatment for their kidneys.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • Ensure effective and competent care is provided to all patients within a best practice/ evidence-based framework.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual centred care.
  • Promote the health, welfare and social wellbeing of patients within our service.
  • Develop and promote good interpersonal relationships with patients and their families.
  • Ensure that care is carried out in an empathetic and ethical manner and that dignity and spiritual needs are respected.
  • Provide appropriate and timely education and information to the patient and their families.
  • Demonstrate clear and accurate communication skills.
  • Be an advocate for the patient and their families.
  • Maintain accurate written and electronic nursing records and reports in accordance with local/national and professional guidelines.
  • Maintain good working relations with staff, other departments, Consultants and Hospital departments.
  • Participate in clinical audit and review.
  • Participate in patient safety and Quality activities for improving and sustaining care.
  • Report and consult with CNM’s/ Senior Staff Nurses on clinical issues as appropriate.

Experience

  • All nurses will complete staff induction program at beginning of employment
  • Previous dialysis experience deemed desirable but not essential

Additional experience considered desirable but not essential:

  • ICU
  • Cardiac
  • Phlebotomy
  • ED

Competencies & Knowledge

  • BLS – valid certificate to be held at all times
  • Manual Handling- valid certificate to be held at all times
  • Hand Hygiene/ Standard Precautions
  • IV Drug administration
  • Fire safety training
  • Ability to attain and maintain the understanding of renal dialysis process
  • Ability to attain and maintain the understanding of renal dialysis equipment
